Helpful Tips For Attending Track & Field Competitions
I want to compete at a meet, what do I do?
What to bring to the meet?
- Create your account through Trackie ahead of time to streamline the registration process. Click here for more information on setting up your Trackie account
- Review the meet package and event schedule. Links to the meet registration site will be posted on our website ahead of time and can also be found on the BCA calendar & events page and in Trackie
- Check the meet schedule to confirm event days and times. Please note all schedules are tentative until after registration for the meet has closed and a final schedule is posted.
- Register for the meet through Trackie, and pay the meet registration fees if applicable. Enter seed times for each event, if available. Seed times may be optional or mandatory depending on the meet. Contact the club if you have any questions about how to find your seed times
- Plan to arrive at the venue at least 90 mins prior to the event start time.
- When you arrive pick up your competition number. The Cougars will be set up in the main stands with our club's banner and will have the competition numbers for all registered athletes.
- Parents, check-in with the club for your volunteer time slot. The cougars will be setup in the main stands with our club's banner. Our volunteer coordinator will confirm the event and time you have signed-up for and let you know where to go for that event/time.
- Warm-up for your event. Complete your warm-up (ABCs, technicals, jogging etc.) in your running shoes (not spikes)
- Check-in for your event. Event check-in will depend on the meet and the specific event and can vary from 15 minutes to 50 minutes prior to the scheduled event time. Please check the meet package for check-in times for each meet you are attending.
- Event Conflicts. If you are competing in a track and field event that are scheduled at the same time, check-in for the field event first and let them know you have a track event. You will then need to check-in for the track event. You will complete the track event then return to the field event and compete in any remaining rounds. You will not be able to 'make up' missed rounds in the field event. If you have any questions about this at the meet, do not hesitate to ask one of the BCA officials, they are always happy to help.
What to bring to the meet?
- Competition singlet. All competitive athletes should wear their competition singlet while competing
- Running shoes
- Spikes, circle shoes
- Warm-up clothes. Warm clothes to wear during your warm-up and between events
- Water & Food. Lots of water to stay hydrated. Some meets may offer a water re-fill station, but it is always good to be prepared. Healthy food to keep you fueled before and after your events
- Rain gear, Blanket (for in the stands) Hat, Sunglasses, Sunscreen. Prepare for all weather, we have seen all 4 seasons in a single day. Extra shoes and socks are always a good idea as well.
